Consolidation of material

Consolidation in the form of a summary should be presented at the end of each resource block giving a concise gathering and organising of the most important elements of the new information.

The summary should display any hierarchical aspect of the newly presented information through features such as sequence, indentation and bolding to define organisation.

Mathematical formulae, graphical representations and sequences of graphics demonstrating dynamical changes in interacting elements are preferable summary techniques for such information.

Summaries provide confirmatory and/or corrective guidance to learners who use this to either “affirm” their schemas, or to adjust them in accordance with the summary.

In summary, summaries should be presented at the end of each resource block and provide a template regarding the relative importance, hierarchical organisation and interactive relationships between the elements of new information.
