The CAFÉ toolkit was part of a research project being conducted by Southern Cross University. All academics and developers of learning materials who wish to improve these materials using Cognitive Load Theory are invited to use the CAFE toolkit.

The aim of this research project was to identify instructional design techniques based on Cognitive Load Theory that are particularly applicable and useful to academics in the delivery of higher education unit materials. The research involved the completion of three surveys – one before using the CAFÉ toolkit, one immediately afterwards, and one 3 months after first using the toolkit.
